    I have a fire ant nest located in an outdoor patio ceiling. The ceiling material is not wood or wallboard but a thin white plastic/vinyl substrate. We did not build it nor know how it was built but it ain't the best. There is probably moisture within the ceiling and the substrate (whatever it is) below the roofing singles. I do not know what kind of insulaltion (if any) is between the ceiling and the roof. But there is white dust on the black BBQ cover and other stuff below. The ants travel down a gutter attached to the post holding up the ceiling and disappear within the seams of the roof. I've tried several "systems" - fire ant bait sprinkled around the scout's route. The strategy seems like a good one but I think they use it to spice up what they eat and feed one another. I used a borax/water/sugar solution along the scout route that they seemed to gobble up. They disappeared for two days. But I see them again. I am willing to drill holes up into the ceiling and blow dust but am afraid I won't get the queen and they will relocate within the structure somewhere else or even within our nearby attic. Gimme the truth. I'll kill 'em but will they be able to start up again? THanks!
