A The E6100 Adhesive bond is the professional choice for Bird-B-Gone Spike installation. You can use other bonds, but in our experience, nothing holds as well.

Q Are the Bird-B-Gone Spikes flexible? answer now
    Asked on November 18, 2022 1:47 PM
A The Bird-B-Gone Spikes will bend to meet your situation, but you will have to bond one side and then let it dry before bending into place and bonding the remaining side. If you are installing on a steep curve, using screws will work better.
  4. Can you cut the Bird-B-Gone spikes to size?

Q Do the stainless steel Bird-B-Gone Spikes work better than the polycarbonate Spikes. answer now
    Asked on November 18, 2022 1:02 PM
A Both the stainless steel and the polycarbonate Bird-B-Gone Spikes work great, the differences are the polycarbonate costs less, is a tad more visible and lasts about 5 years vs. the stainless steel lasts about 10 years, less visible and costs at tad more.  The polycarbonate can be painted if needed.

Bird-B-Gone 5" Stainless Steel Bird Spikes (6 Ft.)

Description

Material:

Stainless Steel

Use Notes:

Bird-B-Gone Spikes have flexible bases and can easily be installed on flat or curved surfaces.  Bird-B-Gone Spikes can be glued, screwed or tied down to most surfaces. The spike strips have pre-drilled holes along the base. Also, Bird-B-Gone Spikes should be used for birds starling size or larger such as pigeons and gulls. Smaller birds such as sparrows will sometimes squeeze their way in between spikes to get back to a good spot.

Use Instructions:
1.Clean the surface

Clean the surface of any bird droppings, nesting materials or debris. Bird droppings do carry disease so make sure to wear gloves and respiratory protection when dealing with large amounts. Use a disinfectant to clean the surface and make sure the area is dry before installation.

Suggestion: Use a 10% bleach or ammonia solution to disinfect the area. It is important that all debris is removed including overhanging branches, leaves, and nesting materials before disinfecting the area.

2. Choose your mounting method.

Construction grade polyurethane adhesive can be used to install the bird spikes on most surfaces.

For Wood: Use wood screws to secure Bird Spikes into a wood surface. There are two sets of holes between each fan of spikes. Make sure the ends are secured tightly and at least one screw is placed every six inches.

For Concrete: Outdoor construction adhesive can be used to secure Bird Spikes down to a variety of surfaces. Bird-B-Gone Spike Polycarbonate has a glue trough along the base. Use a polyurethane adhesive meant for outdoor use. Silicone adhesives are not recommended. For extra security, screw or bolt down the spikes along with using an adhesive.

3. Install

Bird-B-Gone Spikes can easily be cut down into smaller lengths if needed using tin snips, wire cutters, a hacksaw etc. Install the spikes with no more than 1″ in front of and behind the area to be covered. If more than 1″ of space is left open, birds can land and nest in these spots.

FAQ's

Is plastic or metal Bird Spikes better?

Bird spikes are available in either plastic or stainless steel. Both types feature a UV-resistant polycarbonate plastic base. Both are durable, weather resistant, easy to install, and effective at deterring birds. The main differences are that stainless steel spikes last longer (up to 10 years) and have a lower visual impact than plastic spikes. While plastic spikes come in a variety of camouflaging colors with a lower price point, they are a little thicker and slightly more visible.

How long do Bird Spikes last for?

Beyond their foolproof—bird proof—design and versatile applicability, the durability and longevity of bird spikes contributes greatly to their long-standing popularity.

  1. Bird spikes require almost no maintenance. Keep them clear of leaves and debris and they’ll work day and night for years to prevent roosting.
  2. Bird B Gone Stainless Steel Spikes last up to 10 years.
  3. Bird B Gone Plastic Spikes last up to 5 years.
Do Bird Spikes hurt birds?

Bird Spikes have dull tips that will not harm birds. The long spikes simply serve to completely keep the birds’ feet from being able to reach the surface, thus preventing any kind of roosting.
