What is a Tick?

- Ticks can be found in many areas, including grassy fields, wooded areas, and even your backyard.
- Ticks are most active during the warmer months of the year.

- They have eight legs and a hard outer shell.
- Ticks can be brown, black, or reddish in color.

Removing the Tick
Whether you are removing a tick from yourself or from your dog or cat, the steps will be the same. Note: Always be careful as not to pinch the skin.
- Use tweezers or a tick removal tool to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible.
- Slowly and steadily pull the tick away from the skin.
- Do not twist or jerk the tick as this can cause the mouthparts to remain in the skin.
Aftercare
- Wash the area with soap and water.
- Apply rubbing alcohol or an antiseptic wipe to the bite site.
- Place the tick in a small container with a lid and dispose of it properly.
- Monitor the bite site for any signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or warmth.
