Bugs got you down when you’re trying to get your summertime grilling on?
I don’t know about you, but for me, summertime means firing up that grill and getting busy with some serious bbq action. No matter what is on the menu, I don’t want it with a side of bugs. I’m usually cool with the smell of my bbq bringing the neighbors over, but I draw the line at those nasty bugs that want a taste of whatever I am grilling.
What are the summertime bugs?
Mosquitos, hornets, meat bees, and ants are the usual pests that like to crash your bbq party. The crazy thing is that they aren’t only attracted to the delicious smell coming off the grill, but some are also attracted to the griller! Mosquitoes can sense the carbon dioxide in a person’s breath from more than 30 feet away. Once they’ve got you in their sight, it’s game on for them. You are the one who is supposed to be doing the eating – not them!
I’d like a burger with a side of hornets. NOT! If you happen to have a hornets’ nest nearby, plan on them showing up, too. While they like to stay close to their nests, if there’s some grilling going on, they just can’t resist.
And then there’s the meat-lovin’ meat bees that seem to come out of nowhere to get their fix of some bbq’d goodness. I mean, can you blame them? It’s delicious!
And not to be outdone or forgotten are the ever-present ants that can’t help but crash a bar-b-que party. So rude!
