How to Use BugScents Sentry Pro Bed Bug Detection Traps
Step 1 – Inspect the Room
Before placing the monitor, look for common signs of bed bug activity, including live bed bugs, shed skins, eggs, fecal spotting and activity around mattress seams, box springs, headboards and furniture.
Step 2 – Prepare the BugScents Lure
Carefully open the outer foil package containing the BugScents attractant.
Remove the internal lure sachet but DO NOT open the internal sachet.
The attractant is designed to release from the intact sachet.
Step 3 – Assemble the Monitor
Install the lure sachet inside the Sentry Pro monitoring trap according to the supplied assembly instructions and make sure the glue board is properly positioned.
Step 4 – Position the Trap
Place the assembled monitor strategically between the sleeping area and a likely bed bug harborage.
Good locations include underneath the bed or behind the headboard.
The monitor may be positioned horizontally or mounted vertically depending on the treatment area.
Step 5 – Allow the Monitor to Work
For initial detection, allow the monitor to remain undisturbed.
BugScents Sentry Pro has demonstrated detection in as little as 24 hours, with Liphatech recommending 24–96 hours in occupied rooms for best results.
Step 6 – Inspect for Bed Bugs
Carefully inspect the glue insert for captured bed bugs.
A positive capture confirms bed bug activity and can help determine where further inspection and treatment should be concentrated.
Step 7 – Continue Monitoring
Don’t automatically remove the monitors after a bed bug treatment.
Sentry Pro can also be used for post-treatment monitoring to help determine whether bed bug activity continues and for ongoing surveillance to detect new infestations.
Where to Place BugScents Sentry Pro
Correct placement is extremely important.
Bed bugs generally remain close to their host and protected harborage areas. Liphatech recommends strategically positioning the monitor between the pillow/sleeping host and a likely bed bug refuge, such as behind the headboard or underneath the bed.
Good placement locations include:
- Under the bed
- Behind the headboard
- Near the head of the bed
- Around suspected bed bug harborages
- Near sleeping areas
- Other areas where bed bug movement is suspected
The ultra-thin profile allows the trap to fit into tight locations and it can be installed horizontally or vertically for additional flexibility.
How Fast Does BugScents Sentry Pro Detect Bed Bugs?
BugScents Sentry Pro can detect bed bugs in as little as 24 hours based on simulated bedroom studies.
Liphatech recommends using the monitors in occupied rooms for 24 to 96 hours for best results.
For ongoing monitoring, the lure remains effective for up to three months depending on environmental conditions.
Important: A monitor that does not capture a bed bug does not guarantee that a room is bed-bug free. The trap should be considered one component of a comprehensive inspection and bed bug management program
How Long Does BugScents Sentry Pro Last?
The BugScents lure provides active attraction for up to three months depending on environmental conditions. Liphatech recommends replacing the glue board every 2–3 months or when an infestation is detected.
Replacement BugScents attractants and glue boards are available separately, allowing the monitor housing to be reused.
Excellent for Post-Treatment Bed Bug Monitoring
One of the hardest questions after treating bed bugs is:
“Are the bed bugs actually gone?”
BugScents Sentry Pro provides a valuable tool for monitoring after treatment.
Instead of relying entirely on whether someone receives another bite or happens to see another bed bug, strategically placed monitors provide an additional method for detecting continued activity.
Liphatech specifically designed Sentry Pro for initial assessment, monitoring during treatment, post-treatment monitoring and continuous monitoring for early detection.
Ideal for Hotels & Property Management
Bed bug detection is especially important anywhere people frequently sleep or travel.
BugScents Sentry Pro is well suited for professional monitoring programs in:
- Homes
- Apartments
- Hotels
- Motels
- Multi-family housing
- Dormitories
- Property management accounts
- Short-term rentals
- Other appropriate sleeping environments
Its low-profile black design allows it to remain discreetly positioned beneath beds and furniture or behind headboards.
BugScents Sentry Pro vs. Passive Bed Bug Traps
A basic passive bed bug trap depends primarily on a bed bug naturally encountering it.
BugScents Sentry Pro actively incorporates a patented attractant designed to mimic bed bug aggregation pheromones.
The monitor itself is also designed around bed bug behavior. Its 360-degree entry, textured surfaces and 60 thigmotactic channels are intended to encourage bed bugs to enter the trap and encounter the adhesive insert.
This makes Sentry Pro an excellent choice when early detection is the objective rather than simply catching bed bugs that happen to cross a passive monitor.
