Where to Place the Viper Rat Trap
Rats frequently travel along established runways rather than moving randomly through an area. For best results, inspect for signs of rat activity such as: Droppings, Gnaw Marks, Rub Marks, Burrows, Tracks, Nesting Material, Food Damage, Grease Marks. Position traps along active rat travel routes and near areas showing evidence of rodent activity.
Common trapping locations may include appropriate areas in: Garages, Warehouses, Commercial Buildings, Utility Areas, Storage Areas, Attics, Basements, Crawl Spaces and other areas with confirmed rat activity.
Keep snap traps away from children, pets and non-target animals, or place them inside an appropriate protective station.
How to Use the Viper Rat Snap Trap
- 1. Inspect for rat activity. Determine where rats are traveling, feeding, nesting or entering the structure.
- 2. Select the trap location. Position the Viper along an active rodent runway or another appropriate location showing evidence of rat activity.
- 3. Add an attractant or monitor if desired. The Viper can be paired with the Airzonix Rodent Monitor, which is sold separately.
- 4. Set the trap. Carefully engage the Viper’s high-tension mechanism according to VM Products’ instructions.
- 5. Check the indicator. Yellow indicates the trap is set. Black indicates a catch.
- 6. Inspect traps regularly. Remove captured rodents appropriately, clean or service the trap as necessary, and reset it where continued activity exists.
No Rodenticide Required
The Viper provides mechanical rat control. There is no rodenticide inside the trap itself, making it an option for rodent-management programs where a mechanical snap trap is preferred instead of, or as a complement to, rodent bait. It can also be incorporated into a larger Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that includes sanitation, exclusion, monitoring and habitat modification.
Know When Your Viper Trap Has a Catch
One of the Viper’s most useful features is its visual Indicator Alert system.
Yellow = Trap Is Set
When the Viper is properly set, the external indicator displays yellow.
Black = Catch
When the trap has a catch, the indicator changes to black. This allows the trap’s status to be checked more quickly, especially when the Viper is installed inside a compatible rodent station or positioned somewhere that makes visually inspecting the trap itself inconvenient. For pest-control professionals managing multiple traps, this can make routine inspections and servicing considerably more efficient.

Powerful High-Tension Spring
When you’re dealing with rats, trap power matters. VM Products designed the Viper with an exceptionally strong, high-tension spring engineered to deliver a rapid, powerful strike. The trap was developed and tested for consistent trigger response and impact performance. That makes the Viper particularly well suited for professional rodent-control programs where reliability and repeatable performance are important.
Scissor-Tooth Design Helps Prevent Escape
The Viper doesn’t rely on a simple smooth striking bar. VM Products designed the trap with a scissor-tooth closing system that closes tightly around the rodent to help prevent escape after activation. This aggressive mechanical design, combined with the high-tension spring, differentiates the Viper from many conventional rat snap traps.
Built for Professional Rodent Control
Rat traps can be exposed to repeated setting, triggering, cleaning and servicing. VM Products manufactures the Viper from reinforced glass-filled polypropylene, which is designed to provide additional strength and long-term durability. Rather than treating the Viper as a disposable trap, its construction makes it suitable for repeated use as part of an ongoing rodent-management program.
Flexible Rat Trap Placement
Proper trap placement is one of the most important parts of successful rat control. The Viper gives pest-management professionals and DIY users several installation options. It can be used independently as a standalone snap trap, or it can be secured in compatible VM Products equipment. Veseris also identifies the Viper as suitable for both domestic and commercial pest-management applications. When using any snap trap in an accessible area, consider protecting the trap from children, pets and non-target animals with an appropriate tamper-resistant station or other suitable placement.
Mount the Viper to a Surface
The Viper is designed for more than traditional floor placement. VM Products includes mounting material that allows the trap to be secured to many appropriate surfaces. This gives users greater flexibility when targeting established rat travel routes. Depending on the environment and rodent activity, this can be particularly useful where standard horizontal floor placement isn’t ideal. Always position traps where they can be safely inspected and serviced.
Fits Inside the VM Products EZ Secured Station
The Viper integrates with the VM Products EZ Secured® Rodent Bait Station. For EZ Secured stations manufactured beginning in March 2025, VM Products incorporates a retainer plug mount that allows the Viper to be secured inside the station using the included plug. This provides an excellent option for customers who want the power of a rat snap trap combined with the added protection and professional appearance of a rodent station.
The EZ Secured station is sold separately.
Compatible with the EZ Klean Rodent Station
The Viper can also be used inside the VM Products EZ Klean® Rodent Bait Station. VM Products specifically lists the Viper Rat Snap Trap as compatible with the EZ Klean. This gives professional technicians more flexibility to integrate the same snap trap into different VM Products rodent-management systems.
Add Airzonix for Non-Food-Based Rodent Monitoring
The Viper also accepts the Airzonix® Rodent Monitor, sold separately. The Airzonix unit snaps into the Viper and provides a non-food-based monitoring solution, eliminating the mess and mold concerns associated with some food-based monitoring materials. This is particularly useful for professional accounts where cleanliness, consistency and servicing efficiency are priorities.
Viper Rat Trap + Airzonix = mechanical rat control with a purpose-built rodent monitoring system.
