  30. How long does Selontra Rodent Bait take to work?
  31. 0 votes
Q How long does Selontra Rodent Bait take to work? answer now
    Asked on December 18, 2025 1:18 PM
A Selontra Rodent Bait begins working after rodents consume a lethal amount of bait, with results typically noticeable within 1–3 days. Most users see a decline in rodent activity, feeding, and sightings within 3–5 days, while complete control of active rodents generally occurs within 5–7 days, depending on consumption levels and bait placement. Selontra contains cholecalciferol (vitamin D₃), a non-anticoagulant rodenticide that causes rodents to stop feeding shortly after ingestion. Because its effects are delayed rather than immediate, rodents do not associate the bait with illness, which helps prevent bait shyness and encourages lethal consumption. Affected rodents usually retreat to hidden areas, so visible carcasses are uncommon. Effectiveness is measured by reduced bait take and declining rodent signs, not by finding dead rodents. For best results, place Selontra in secured bait stations along active runways, wall edges, burrows, and exterior foundations, and maintain bait availability until rodent activity stops.
  32. What is the correct application rate for Selontra Rodent Bait?

Q What is the correct application rate for Selontra Rodent Bait? answer now
    Asked on August 20, 2025 8:51 PM
A The application rate for Selontra® Rodent Bait depends on whether you are targeting rats or mice: For Rats (Norway rats, roof rats): Place 2 to 8 bait blocks (0.9 oz. each) every 15 to 30 feet along active runways, burrows, or near feeding sites. For Mice (house mice, deer mice): Place 1 block every 8 to 12 feet in areas of activity. Increase placements if infestations are heavy. Application Guidelines: Always use tamper-resistant bait stations around homes, pets, or livestock. Check bait placements every 1 to 2 days for mice, and every 2 to 4 days for rats, replenishing until feeding activity ceases. Remove competing food sources for the fastest control. 👉 Selontra’s cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) formulation kills rodents in as little as 3–4 days, even in environments with abundant alternative food sources.

Selontra Rodent Bait provides a quick colony kill and controls the infestation of a variety of rodent species within seven days. The shortened bait program requires less bait, and the active ingredient, Cholecalciferol 0.08%, allows rodents to eat only enough for a lethal dose, leaving the remainder for the rest of the colony. Selontra is effective against anti-coagulant rodents and its palatability has been proven, even when desirable food sources are available. This product is durable and holds up even in the toughest environments. It does not melt in hot, humid temperatures, even as high as 177 degrees, or lose its potency in temperatures as low as 0 degrees. Selontra Rodent Bait is great for you, but bad for rats and mice!

Product Features:

  • Fast colony kill: Controls infestations in seven days in U.S. field trials
  • Efficient use of bait: Allows for shorter baiting programs, less bait to kill populations, and reduced waste
  • Effective resistance management: Kills anticoagulant-resistant rodents

Size:

  • 8lb. Pail

Description

Product Alternatives: Final All-Weather Blox
EPA Registration No.: 7969-382
Active Ingredient: Cholecalciferol – .0.075%
General Instructions:

Bait stations are mandatory for outdoor, above-ground use. Tamper-resistant bait stations must be used wherever children, pets, non-target mammals, or birds may have access to the bait placement location.

SELECTION OF TREATMENT AREAS:

Determine areas where rats, mice, or meadow voles* will most likely find and consume the bait. Generally, these areas are along walls, by gnawed openings, in corners and concealed places, between floors and walls, or in locations where rats, mice, or meadow voles*, or their signs have been seen. Protect bait from rain and snow. Remove as much alternative food as possible to limit competition with the bait.

Directions For Use:

Rats:

Use 2 to 8 wrapped soft baits per placement. Space placements at intervals of 15 to 30 feet in infested areas. Maintain an uninterrupted supply of fresh bait for at least 7 days or until there no longer are fresh signs that Norway rats or roof rats are feeding on the bait.

Mice and Voles:

Use one wrapped soft bait per placement. Space placements at intervals of 8 to 12 feet in infested areas. Up to 2 soft baits may be used at points of very high house mouse activity. Maintain an uninterrupted supply of fresh bait for at least 15 days or until there no longer are fresh signs that house mice are feeding on the bait.

Follow Up:

After initial bait placement, ensure an uninterrupted supply of bait is available for 15 days for mice or meadow voles* and 7 days for rats. Replace contaminated or spoiled bait immediately. If bait has been completely removed, replenish placements with 1 or 2 soft baits for mice or meadow voles* and 4 to 8 soft baits for rats. Wearing water proof gloves, collect and dispose of all visible dead rodents and left over bait. Where a continuous source of infestation is present, establish permanent bait stations and monitor them regularly. To discourage infestation, limit sources of food, water, and harborage as much as possible.

Note to Veterinarians:

Calcium Mobilizer Cholecalciferol: For animals ingesting bait, induce vomiting by using hydrogen peroxide or administration of activated charcoal with a cathartic. If clinical signs develop, treatment consisting of saline diuresis combined with the use of furosemide, corticosteroids, and phosphate binders are recommended. Calcitonin or pamidronate may be needed for animals that remain hypercalcemic despite symptomatic treatments.
